Lake Bled is a very scenic place in the Julian Alps of Slovenia, which we visited last year. A famous dish from Lake Bled is a cream cake, composed of puff pastry, whipped cream, and a custard. Carol made it last night based on a recipe in Spela Vodovc’s book Cook Eat Slovenia: Traditional Recipes from Slovenia. It makes 9 large servings. Carol jury-rigged a pan tall enough for this cake by cutting cardboard into a 9 x 9 rectangle and lining the box with aluminum foil. To make cutting the cake easier, she cut the top sheet of puff pastry into 9 3×3 pieces before putting it on top of the cream and custard layers.
